HEQ Sewage Treatment – Routine Service in Dundee, Scotland
HEQ routine service Dundee carried out today for an existing customer. During the visit, we recorded an MLSS concentration above 70%, identified a blocked recycle pump, and found the 250 L/min airflow filter fully choked. Each issue was resolved as part of the service to bring the plant back to correct operation.

✅ Service findings
- MLSS concentration > 70% – This indicates excess sludge build-up. Emptying is required to restore headroom and maintain efficiency. While we don’t desludge, we test and advise so operators know when it’s due.
- Recycle pump blockage – One of the two pumps was blocked. Recycle pumps are vital for recirculating settled liquor to maintain MLSS balance. Without them, oxygen uptake falls and treatment destabilises. Pump was cleared and flow proved.
- Airflow filter replacement – The 250 L/min filter was fully choked. A blocked filter restricts air supply from the blower, starving bacteria of oxygen and collapsing the treatment process. Replaced with a new filter, airflow restored and blower readings logged.
