Twin Pump Chamber Service - Newmilns Ayrshire
We recently carried out a routine service on a twin sewage pump chamber fitted with two Hippo-50QS submersible pumps.
Both pumps, the control system, float switches, non-return valves and associated chamber equipment were inspected and function tested as part of the service.
Control Panel & Electrical Inspection
The control panel was inspected and found to be in good condition, with all electrical terminations checked and confirmed secure.
- Supply voltage: 232V
- Control voltage: 24V
- Pump 1 running current: 4.3A
- Pump 2 running current: 4.5A
- Pump alternation: Operating correctly
- High-level audible alarm: Operating correctly
Twin Pump Chamber Inspection
The chamber was fully inspected and cleaned during the service.
Sludge accumulation within the chamber was disturbed, mixed and diluted before being pumped away to reduce excessive buildup.
No significant grease accumulation was present, and the chamber walls, access covers and internal pipework were all found to be in good condition.
Hippo-50QS Pump Service
The chamber is fitted with two Hippo-50QS submersible pumps.
Both pumps were removed from the chamber, cleaned and washed down before being mechanically inspected.
- Both impellers free from blockages
- Pumps cleaned and inspected
- Seal and discharge flanges in good condition
- Both non-return valves operating correctly
- Pumps reseated correctly
- Pump alternation successfully tested
Float Switches & Alarm Testing
The chamber uses a four-float control arrangement consisting of:
- Stop float
- Start / Duty float
- Assist float
- High-level alarm float
All four floats were cleaned and individually tested. Each float operated correctly during testing.
The high-level audible alarm was also activated and confirmed to be operating correctly.
Guide-Rail Top Mounts
The guide rails themselves remain serviceable, although attention will be required to both top mounts at the next service.
One existing top mount is broken and the second is not correctly secured.
We have recommended replacing both guide-rail top mounts together during the next annual service to restore secure support to both guide-rail assemblies and minimise additional attendance and labour costs.
Service Completed
- Both pumps removed and cleaned
- Both impellers inspected
- Pumps electrically and mechanically tested
- Both non-return valves tested
- All four floats cleaned and tested
- High-level audible alarm tested
- Pump alternation confirmed
- Sludge buildup mixed, diluted and pumped away
- Chamber fully washed down
- No parts required during this service
The twin pump chamber was left operating correctly following completion of the service.
Routine annual servicing is recommended to maintain the pumps, floats, alarms and chamber equipment and to identify developing faults before they result in breakdowns.
We provide twin pump chamber servicing, sewage pump maintenance and fault finding throughout Scotland.
