BA BioDisc Service – Kirknewton, West Lothian
BA BioDisc service Kirknewton completed today for an existing customer in West Lothian. The plant is fitted with a green Darcy Kingspan control panel and a Panasonic motor. This was a routine annual service to verify mechanical condition, electrical performance, and treatment quality in line with SEPA expectations.

✅ Service tasks completed
- Darcy Kingspan panel: Alarms, indicators and control circuits tested and proven.
- Motor & electrics: Panasonic motor checked; readings logged at 0.56 A and 239 V.
- Mechanical checks: Rotor and drivetrain inspected; BA models do not require grease (greasing applies to BF and above).
- Hydraulics: Belt guard found full of water, indicating historically high water level; as this is a gravity outlet, the customer was advised of a likely partial downstream blockage for investigation.
- Cleaning: BioDisc hosed down to maintain free rotation and clear internals.
- Sludge/crust assessment: Levels recorded low – no emptying required at this visit; we’ll reassess at the next service to avoid unnecessary tankering costs.
🔬 Treatment performance observed
The rotor displayed a healthy biofilm gradient: a thicker biological layer on the first stage of the disc pack, tapering as the sewage flows forward. This pattern indicates the BioDisc is loading and treating correctly, with the biomass consuming pollutants at the inlet stages and progressively polishing towards the outlet.
🛠 Why annual servicing matters
Routine servicing keeps the rotor turning freely, confirms electrical safety, and protects the biological film that does the treatment. It also allows us to determine if and when the tank needs emptied—preventing solids overload while avoiding unnecessary tankering. If downstream restrictions are suspected (e.g., elevated water in the belt guard on a gravity outlet), we flag them early before they escalate.
