Biodigester Service in Bonawe, Oban

Last week we attended a Biodigester sewage treatment plant in Bonawe, Oban that hadn’t been serviced in years. This type of plant has minimal moving parts, making it more reliable than many other systems — but it still relies heavily on proper aeration and routine maintenance to function correctly.

The diaphragm inside the air blower had torn, stopping the air supply completely. The air filter was also extremely clogged, which put unnecessary strain on the blower and reduced airflow significantly. We replaced the diaphragm and filter, which got the plant back up and running efficiently.

We also removed both stone diffusers and gave them a deep clean to restore correct airflow to the tank. Sludge levels were high, so we advised the customer that the tank now requires tankering. A large amount of wipes and rags were also removed from the system, which had been contributing to poor aeration.

This was a close call — if regular servicing had been delayed much longer, the costs to restore treatment would’ve been significantly higher. It’s a reminder that preventative maintenance is always cheaper than emergency repair. As part of every service, we record sludge levels and can give you an estimate of when the tank should next be emptied to avoid issues.

We cover Argyll, Oban, and the full of Scotland.
