Graf One2Clean service Glenelg — We recently completed an annual service on a Graf One2Clean sewage treatment plant in Glenelg following customer concerns regarding a strong septic odour around the system.

Whenever a customer reports excessive odours, our priority is to determine whether the cause is a mechanical or electrical fault, or simply a maintenance issue. This ensures the correct solution is recommended rather than replacing parts unnecessarily.

Initial Inspection

Following a full inspection, the treatment plant was found to be operating correctly from both a mechanical and electrical perspective.

• Supply voltage checked
• Air blower operating correctly
• Air filter replaced
• Control panel inspected
• Aeration and discharge cycles tested
• No electrical or mechanical defects identified

Air Blower Inspection

The Hiblow XP-80 air blower was inspected as part of the service.

• Air filter replaced
• No excessive vibration
• No abnormal noise
• Airline inspected
• Jubilee clips tightened
• Blower operating within specification

A healthy air blower is essential to provide oxygen for the biological treatment process. Without sufficient airflow, treatment performance quickly deteriorates.

Diffuser Inspection & Cleaning

Both diffuser assemblies were removed from the aeration chamber for cleaning and detailed inspection.

• Both diffusers removed
• Pressure washed and cleaned
• No rips or deterioration found
• Returned to service after inspection

Cleaning the diffusers helps maintain efficient airflow throughout the aeration chamber and allows any signs of damage to be identified before they affect treatment performance.

Cause of the Septic Odour

Although the sewage treatment plant was operating correctly, further testing identified:

• Primary sludge chamber at 100%
• MLSS reading of 60%
• Poor final effluent quality
• Good biological activity still present

Based on our findings, the treatment plant is now overdue for desludging. This is the most likely cause of the septic odour reported by the customer.

Once the excess sludge has been removed and the treatment plant has been refilled in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, the biological process should recover, improving the final effluent quality and significantly reducing the septic odour.

In this case, no mechanical or electrical defects were found. The equipment was operating exactly as designed, with the investigation identifying overdue desludging as the likely cause of the reported odour.
